And they’re off…
Phew. What a relief to have Tony Blair call the election for May 5th. There is this sense of ‘at last, now we can get on with it’ in Parliament today. Everyone here had had enough of the phoney war.
And having been saying on these pages for many months that it was going to be May 5th I am glad that the PM did not let me down (on this at least).

How confident are you of holding Hallam? I remember the dissapointment we felt in ‘92 when Peter couldn’t shift “Cyril” and the delight that you removed him in ‘97. Now that the Tories are looking like a half-decent prospect for doing somewhat well, are you worried? Will Dore and Eccelesall swing back to being blue?
