Search Serendipity
One of the joys of the internet is the way in which you start looking for one thing and find something else that is of equal or more interest than your original intended target.
Over the weekend I started on a playlist of music videos on YouTube after finding an interesting Pulp video and then exploring what else was lurking in that vast video vault.
I’ve always had a soft spot for the band Half Man Half Biscuit and searching for them turned up their great track Trumpton Riots.
This produced a link to a very wonderful (for all fans of the excellent BBC Series ‘Life on Mars’ – a must see if you haven’t already) pastiche of the classic childrens’ show Camberwick Green. Had me chuckling.
And then, I found the greatest treasures of all. The rest of the afternoon was spent introducing my kids (OK, they’re too young to care about TV for more than 30 seconds at a time but I was transfixed) to the pleasures of The Clangers, Trumpton, Captain Pugwash, and, best of all for my nostalgia trip, Tales of the Riverbank.
This is rich vein I have only just started to mine so many happy serendipitous hours await.
One of the joys of having babies is catching up on all the things you never did as a kid. I never saw the Clangers (I was in Canada). But now I have the perfect excuse! Nice link.
