iPlayer and Mac Continued – the Photographic Evidence
Mock the Week did download – quite quickly after an initial pause – and runs fine. Here it is below with iPlayer running on the Mac Desktop using the VMWare Unity mode – a nice feature that exposes applications running in the Windows virtual machine as part of the general Mac interface.

Very cool – for me, if the BBC would buy up Joost and use that interface, that would make the system perfect.
Did you know you can automatically take screengrabs by holding down shift, apple, and 3? It drops a PNG of your screen on to your desktop, so you don’t have to run Grab.
If iPlayer works inside a virtual machine such as VMWare, couldn’t that be used to break the DRM? For example, the VM could be told the time is the same time, then the programme won’t go away after a week. Or the calls to output video to the screen must be implemented inside the VM, which could write all the information to an unencrypted file.
But, the reason the iPlayer software was written was to apply DRM to the BBC’s content. If the DRM is broken, then writing iPlayer was a pointless waste of time and money. (Of course, DRM is snake oil anyway, and it is very likely to become broken if there is enough material on it that makes it attractive to break).
I wonder if iPlayer runs under Wine?
